The Binding is full black cloth, some fading to the spine, otherwise color consistent, with title and author's initials blindstamped to the front board, bright gilt title, etc. and design to the spine, white endpapers unmarked but for a prior owner's signature at the top of the front free endpaper, and all corners square with minor wear at the tips. No Jacket. See the accompanying photos. ix, 729, [iv] pages. 5 3/4" x 8 5/8". Originally published in German as Der Zauberbwerg by Fischer Verlag in 1924, this English language edition was translated by H. T. Lowe-Porter. Set in a tuberculosis sanatorium, the story presents an inverted Bildungsroman where the protagonist completes his maturity while separated from society not in it, only to be conscripted into the First World War. NOTE: This book weighs 835 grams / 29.4 ounces, and, when packaged, will require extra postage for international shipment.
