Hardcover. Condition: Good. viii, 622 pp., incl. index Worn but usable copy of the scarce second series of these seminal lectures. This is apparently the first American edition of a work originally published in England. Spine rubbed, frayed at head and foot; gilt lettering abraded but just legible. Boards generally worn and cockled; corners bumped. Uniform browning of pulpy paper, dampstain to first several pages and extremities of paste-downs. There is a monogram bookplate. No markings to text. Binding sound, tho' perhaps a trifle loose at front hinge. Quite usable overall, but G only. "In casting my notes into the shape of lectures to be addressed to a more advanced audience, I left out many things that were merely elementary, and I made several additions in order to show the bearing of the Science of Language on some of the more important problems of philosophy and religion" (v). …

The decorative marbled textblock edges are slightly dust-darkened and otherwise the textblock is decent, with minimal toning and foxing and good unfaded print. Page binding is firm.
