Add to basketHardcover. Condition: Very Good. Dust Jacket Condition: Very Good. 5th or later Edition. A later printing from 1965, printed from the sheets of the first edition which was originally published in 1933. With illustrations, including a fold-out photo of two pages of Dorothy Wordsworth's manuscript Journal, and a folding map showin…g Cumberland and Westmorland at the back of the book. ***Very good in navy-blue cloth-covered boards with gilt titles and publisher's device to the spine. The gilt is still beautifully bright, having been protected by the dustwrapper. The boards are quite clean, with just some light tape offsetting marks, where the dustwrapper was taped to the boards by the library. There is just slight creasing to the top and tail of the spine, but the corners are sharp. No reading lean to the binding. Spine tight. Page block edges clean, but with library stamps. Internally also very good, with the following library marks: 'Bishop Thomas Grant school, Belltrees Grove, S.W.16' stamp to pastedowns, and back of printer's page and title page; some tape offsetting marks to endpapers. No other obvious marks. No foxing. Pages clean. No creases or tears. Folding map untorn. ***In a very good plain printed cream-coloured dustwrapper. The dustwrapper is complete, with just slight wear and rubbing at the edges. The dustwrapper has been corner price-clipped. There are some marks to the cream areas of the dustwrapper, commensurate with age and handling, but is generally very clean. The spine is particularly clean and bright. No creases, chips or tears. Dustwrapper bright. ***428 pages including Appendices and a detailed Index at the back of the book. 230mm x 145mm. ***'Lovers of Wordsworth's poetry can hardly fail to realize something of what he owed to his sister Dorothy; the more discerning of these have seen in her, not merely the alert companion of his creative hours, and their faithful chronicler, but the deepest and most permanent influence upon his life. Her diaries and private correspondence go far to explain that influence. Professor de Selincourt has had access to many hitherto unpublished papers and has been able to quote from them at length. Written with simplicity but out of the fullness of knowledge, this should become the permanent biography of Dorothy Wordsworth. ***'The book is just about as good as it could be.' - Professor H. W. Garrod in the Observer.' (Quotes taken from the front flap of the dustwrapper) ***A later 1965 printing of the 1933 first edition, in the original dustwrapper. A clean ex-library copy. ***For all our books, postage is charged at cost, allowing for packaging: any shipping rates indicated on ABE are an average only: we will reduce the P & P charge where appropriate - please contact us for postal rates for heavier books and sets etc.
