Neu -Die Ausstellung »Ost / Western - Kino, Kult und Klassenfeind« ist eine Auseinandersetzung mit den sogenannten DEFA-»Indianerfilmen« der ehemaligen DDR und den Karl-May-Filmen der BRD (Rialto Film und CCC Filmkunst) der 60er, 70er und frühen 80er Jahre. Der Film »Die Söhne der großen Bärin«, der…Gojko Mitis Schauspielerkarriere ebnete, wurde erfolgreichster Film des Jahres 1966 und erreichte in der DDR fast 9,5 Mio. Menschen, in der UdSSR sogar 29,1 Mio. Der Film ist der Beginn einer bis 1982 jährlich erweiterten Reihe, welche neben den Märchenverfilmungen der DEFA zu den großen Kassenschlagern des DDR-Kinos gehört. Miti in den Rollen »Chingachgook« und »Tecumseh« ist Kindern der DDR bis heute ein Begriff. Pierre Brice, der Star des westdeutschen »Indianer«-Films schlechthin, spielte fast zeitgleich in 11 Karl-May-Verfilmungen der BRD ebenso erfolgreich die Rolle des Winnetou. In einer umfassenden genre- und medienübergreifenden Ausstellung zeigt die Kunsthalle den Einfluss dieser beiden Filmreihen auf die Gesellschaft, ihre Alltagskultur und die gesamte Kunst- und Kulturszene der 70er Jahre bis heute. Der Fokus der Ausstellung wird auf die künstlerische Arbeit hinter den Filmproduktionen sowie auf die bis heute andauernde Welle jenes Phänomens und ihr Einfluss auf die Gesellschaft der ost- und westdeutschen Bürger damals wie heute gelegt. Zudem wird auch ein kritischer Blick auf die nostalgischen Momente und den bis heute anhaltenden Kult geworfen - mit Fragen zu kultureller Aneignung und zur Verknüpfung von Populärkultur mit (post-)kolonialer Geschichte.
