8vo. Publisher's original pale blue cloth gilt, in the dust-jacket. Some wear to jacket, generally a very good copy. The Hakluyt Society was founded in 1846 in London for the publication of primary sources of exploration and discovery expeditions. They were named after Richard Hakluyt (1552-1616) a collector and editor of narratives of voyages and travels. The publications are primarily from English expeditions related to English interests from the 17th century on. These volumes cover the early search for the North West Passage through Hudson Bay, which was determined not to lead to the Pacific Ocean.

Cloth. Condition: Very Good Indeed. Dust Jacket Condition: Very Good. None (illustrator). An attractive copy of this record of the voyages of Charles Bishop. Michael Roe offers a narrative of the voyages of Charles Bishop in this interesting volume published by the Hakluyt Society. Found in the price clipped dust wrapper. Instructed to procure furs from Native Americans and then sell the cargo in Canton, Bishop set sail from Bristol port in 1874. Between 1794 and 1802, he visited the Pacific islands and the coasts of Asia and Australia and his journal tells of interactions with his contacts in the pacific, as well as the seamen who served under him. In the publisher's original blue cloth binding, found in the price clipped dustwrapper. Externally, very smart. Very lightly bumped to the head and tail of the spine, with a couple of faint marks to the front board. The wrap has a centimetre long tear to the rear board. Internally, firmly bound, with bright and clean pages throughout. Very Good Indeed. book.
