First published in 1939, this volume contains eleven previously unpublished short stories, essays and poems of Duval, a biographical sketch and bibliography. **Kentucky-born writer John Crittenden Duval (1816- 1897) was famous for pioneering adventure stories about Big-foot Wallace, Texas Ranger, based upon a real man the author served with around 1845 in the Mexican-American War. "The Adventures of Bigfoot Wallace, the Texas Ranger and Hunter" was published in book form in 1870. His reminiscences of the Goliad Massacre, contained in the classic "Early Times in Texas" was serialized in Burke's Weekly at Macon, Georgia, beginning in 1867, later going into multiple printings in book form in the 1890's. Duval escaped from the massacre of Fannin's command at Goliad in 1836. This book contains some of his unpublished works. Ike Moore bookplate, minor tape marks on endpapers.
