Hardcover. Condition: Very Good. "A Modern Comedy" by John Galsworthy is one of the great social satires of the early Twentieth Century. It was the Second Trilogy in "The Forsyte Saga". This edition was printed in English for citizens of the Soviet Union in 1956. Published by The Foreign Language Publishing House in Moscow, the three volume set includes an Introduction in Russian and footnotes in English. The footnotes are copious, for they entail a Soviet reading of the novel, and thus this edition is particularly interesting. The trilogy consists of the following parts : "The White Monkey", "The Silver Spoon", and "Swan Song". At the front of Volume One is a statement crediting those responsible for the book: Foreword by M. I. Voropanova; Explanatory Notes by I. R. Gerbatch; Design by B. A. Markevitch. INTERIOR - End-papers are clean. Paper throughout is lightly toned ; there are scatted small spots and a few near-negligible smudges (nothing egregious) - basically the interior is clean and presentable with but modest signs of handling.
