Condition: Gut. 1. 1st printing. 25x17 cm. IX, 266 S. Ill. Hardcover. Green board with yellow and white title printing. library label on spine. Corners and edges easily rubbed. No jacket. Good condition. Inside with the usual library stamps and inscriptions. Otherwise very clean. This treatise summarizes immunofluorescent and electron microscopic observations on the inter- and intracellular distribution of intermediate filaments of vertebrate and invertebrate origin. Emphasis is placed on their interaction with other cellular organelles and their reorganization under physiological and various experimental conditions. In addition, the tissue specificity of the different intermediate filament subclasses, which suggests an important role of their subunit proteins in cell differentiation, is accentuated. (.) Taschenbuch. Condition: Neu. Druck auf Anfrage Neuware - Printed after ordering - Research on cytoskeletal elements of eukaryotic cells has been expand ing explosively during the past 5 to 10 years. Due largely to the employment of electron and immunofluorescent microscopy, significant results have been obtained which have provided interesting new insights into the dynamics of nucleated cells at the structural, physiological, as well as developmental levels. While a substantial amount of knowledge has accumulated on the function of microfilaments and microtubules, the roles of the third major class of cytoskeletal structures in vertebrate cells, the intermediate filaments, have largely resisted clarification. The investigation of cultured cells and of tissues from various developmental stages has furnished a host of information on the inter-and intracellular distribution of the different types of intermediate filaments and led to the contention that they have a structural and organizing function in the cytoplasm of vertebrate cells. However, the results of recent experimen that vertebrate cells can function perfectly in the tation have shown complete absence of cytoplasmically extended intermediate filament meshworks. It is legitimate to suppose, therefore, that their function in vertebrate cells is much more subtle and complex than generally presumed. Our interest in the structure and function of intermediate filament proteins was initiated approximately 7 years ago while working on the regulation of macromolecular synthesis in picornavirus-infected mam malian cells. In attempts to demonstrate virus-induced changes in the nuclear protein components of the host cells, the nonionic detergent extraction method was used to purify nuclei.…

Taschenbuch. Condition: Neu. nach der Bestellung gedruckt Neuware - Printed after ordering - Changes during mammary gland development can be detected with methods using specific antibodies directed against specific cell structures. In the present study, the expression pattern of a type of intermediate filament called cytokeratins (CKs) was evaluated in tissue samples from mice mammary glands during the first five weeks post-partum (pp). Several CKs were analyzed with specific markers and immunohistochemistry methods. It is known that CK expression varies with physiological and pathological changes, and it has been reported to mark different epithelial cell lineages; its evaluation is therefore of considerable importance for studies of breast cancer of a stem/progenitor cell origin, both in humans and animals. Our trial provides additional knowledge relative to the use of specific antibodies and techniques as valuable tools to detect CKs during early pp mice mammary gland development (weeks 1 to 5 pp), emphasizing the role of CKs as markers of mammary epithelial differentiation.…
