Trade Paperback. Condition: Very Good. Previous owner's name blacked-out upon inside front cover, very light shelf rubbing, little wear overall. Text is clean. 'Language addressed to children, or 'Baby Talk' became the subject of research interest thirty years ago. Since then, the linguistic environment of infants and toddlers has been widely studied. With contributions from leading linguists and psychologists, it explores language acquisition in different cultures and family contexts, in typical and atypical learners, and in second and foreign language learners. It is designed as a sequel to the now famous Talking to children, edited by Catherine Snow . . and Professor Snow here provides an introduction, comparing issues of importance in the field today with the previous concerns of researchers.' xv+319 pages. Taschenbuch. Condition: Neu. nach der Bestellung gedruckt Neuware - Printed after ordering - The present book comprehensively overviews the numerous hypotheses and theories of Second Language Acquisition (SLA) where, among others, these theories deal with the implications of developmental stages of a second language, individual learner differences, internal and external factors (like sex or age), interaction between speakers and listeners, supplying the learners with adequate input, and reflecting on the learner s output. Moreover, this monograph discusses in detail the role of the availability of input and interaction during the acquisition process (with a particular emphasis on Krashen's and Long s theories). The theoretical work on the relation between input viz. interaction and SLA is supported by an empirical study that underlines that the (second language) acquisition process can only be successful if input and interaction are tailored to the individual needs of the learners. Therefore, students of linguistics, people who would like to get an idea of what SLA is, as well as theoretical and empirical researchers will find this book compelling.

Taschenbuch. Condition: Neu. nach der Bestellung gedruckt Neuware - Printed after ordering - Second Language Acquisition (SLA) has not been taught to EFL teacher trainees in almost all teacher colleges in Vietnam, and thus these teacher trainees seem to lose a chance to better understand the nature of the language classroom or to improve their profession. This book, therefore, recommends a new training component with explicit and systematic instruction in classroom-based input and interaction. This component equips EFL non-native trainees with skills in making input comprehensible to learners and encouraging the learners participation in classroom interaction. The training also develops trainees ability in classroom discourse analysis for follow-up reflection and feedback. The book suggests that such a training component should be incorporated in the pre-service EFL teacher training for secondary schools. In addition, to promote the effect of this training component on the trainees teaching performance and reflection ability, non-native English teacher trainees need to have an average and above level of English proficiency and should be involved in as much actual teaching of complete lessons as possible.
