İ 1977: 2nd in the 'First Chronicles Of Thomas Covenant' series of books. 7th printing of 1978 edition:- Review(s): "Comparable to Tolkien at his best. A remarkable achievement which will certainly find a place on the small list of true classics. Donaldson has a vivid and unrestrained imagination. He writes well and wields symbols powerfully" - Washington Post / "An irresistible epic. Imagination, heroism and excitement, made all the more real by Donaldson's deft handling of the rich history of the Land" - Chicago Daily News / "I am singularly impressed. The writing has a sweep of grandeur, a depth that is seldom seen" - Clifford D Simak:- (original cost £1.50).

First Edition
First (Australian) edition (published in the same format/design in the UK by Richard Drew Publishing/Fontana Books, same year). Hardcover. Pages edges just slightly toned, otherwise fine in very good dustjacket (with some slight and inevitable fading to the blue background of the spine, not affecting lettering or illustration). Donaldson's Covenant Chronicles is a multi-layered fantasy of now modern classic status. The publication history on both sides of the Atlantic is complex and rather troublesome for collectors. In the author's native USA, the early books, at least, were published in relatively small trade edition numbers, with a book club edition actually preceding (in the case of "Lord Foul's Bane" ,1977 ) and the paperback editions following close on, and in large numbers. In the UK Fontana paperbacks appeared first, again in quite large numbers and the hardcovers followed in small numbers. The above hardcover omnibus edition of the first three books in the sequence was published in the UK by Richard Drew Publishing, with Collins issuing an identical edition for the Antipodes (printed in England). It is a handsome, sewn-bound edition on good paper, graced with a wonderful wrap-around jacket illustration by Peter Goodfellow. This heavy book will cost more to send overseas, than any default postage rate noted.
