Paperback. Condition: New. Print on Demand. This book introduces readers to the historic churches and parishes in and around the city of Peterborough, providing sketches and anecdotal accounts, rather than exhaustive histories, of the various sites. The book draws on a wide selection of sources, including firsthand accounts from wills, registers, and churchwarden books to help piece together the stories of these churches. It offers a glimpse at the people and events that have shaped the religious landscape of the area, from the founding of Kyneburgha's monastery in the 7th century to the dissolution of the monasteries under Henry VIII. Through its accounts of architectural features, restorations, and benefactors, as well as its descriptions of monuments and memorials, this book invites readers to explore the rich history of the Christian communities in this region and to appreciate their enduring legacy. This book is a reproduction of an important historical work, digitally reconstructed using state-of-the-art technology to preserve the original format. In rare cases, an imperfection in the original, such as a blemish or missing page, may be replicated in the book. print-on-demand item. …

Early history of the church, layout, bells, rectors, monuments etc are affectionately described. Many are named within. Somewhat more than a snapshot. …
