An interesting study of child development and rearing in the Polynesian situation where, although dramatic changes had occurred since the arrival of European cultures, many of the tradition values of the Pacific remained in this context. These were very different from the accepted Western child rearing concepts including community warmth and fostering, with many "parents," encouragement of independence and the responsibilities of older children for the younger. The Ritchies believe there was much the west could learn from these values. 176 pages including references and index, e/paper maps. Pictorial card covers VG, small ink name top FFEP, text block otherwise excellent.
