Hardback octavo, dustjacket (flap unclipped), good condition (in good dustjacket), black & white photos, frontispiece map, spine jacket slightly faded (reverse side little toned, rear cover little creased, minor edgewear), edges lightly foxed, top corner rear cover little bumped, pages lightly toned, rubber stamp. 192 pp. Noel T…hurgood relates the story of the Eugowra gold escort robbery on 15 June 1862 (central western New South Wales) and the subsequent trial. A gang of eight men, headed by the notorious bushranger Frank Gardiner ambushed the Forbes gold escort, shot it out with the police escort and took off with over 14,000 pounds worth of gold and notes. The late author presents the fascinating court room evidence as it unfolds on a day-by-day basis. He died before publication in 1985. Paul Feain and Peter Smith helped to prepare the material for publication. Readers can consider their verdict. (Embargo rubber stamp front free flyleaf.).

Condition: Near Fine. CANADA WEST MAGAZINE-VOL 5, No1-WINTER 1974-THE GOLD ESCORT-THORTON'S LOST PLACER-NORTH WEST LETTERS-TIGHT, CLEAN AND UNMARKED-Original wrap-. In the Spring of 1969, British Columbia schoolteacher and later MP and Provincial Minister, N. L. Barlee, began publishing a magazine titled, Canada West. This attra…ctively designed and printed publication was about British Columbia and sometimes Alberta mining camps, lost mines, and ghost towns - and their artifacts. Barlee did his own traveling, reporting, photographing, and hand illustrating, including maps. All the research and work, both textual and visual, was excellent. The paper he used, and the type fonts, were pleasingly tactile and hugely attractive, lending themselves to a palpable sense of the BC frontier, especially the mining frontier. Many vintage photos were also used in these publications.-Minor shelving wear.
