Edition publiée la même année que l'originale. Deuxième recueil de poèmes… de guerre, après "Interrogation" (1917), ces vingt-cinq poèmes en prose reflètent le désarroi de Pierre Drieu la Rochelle à la suite de la première guerre mondiale. Engagé dans l'infanterie en 1913, il participa aux combats de Charleroi, de la Champagne, des Dardanelles et de Verdun. Libéré fin mars 1919, trois fois blessé, il demeura traumatisé de la Grande Guerre. Homme paradoxal, Pierre Drieu la Rochelle (Paris, 1893-Paris, 1945) fut, dans les années 1920, proche du courant avant-gardiste pour, en 1934, opter pour le fascisme. Ecrivain et journaliste, ses principaux écrits, notamment "Le Feu follet" (1931), "La Comédie de Charleroi" (1934) et surtout "Gilles" (1939), reprennent ses thèmes de la décadence de la société. En 1940, il succéda à Jean Paulhan, qui a démissionné, à la direction de la Nouvelle Revue Française et s'engagea dans une politique de collaboration avec l'Allemagne nazie. A la Libération, il se suicida en mars 1945. Exemplaire enrichi d'un envoi manuscrit signé de l'auteur "à Lucien Combelle, ce cri de jeunesse, Pierre Drieu la Rochelle bien content de l'avoir rencontré, Janvier 41". Lucien Combelle fut un ami très proche de Pierre Drieu la Rochelle. Peu de temps avant son suicide, en 1945, Pierre Drieu la Rochelle lui envoya une lettre : "Mon cher Combelle, vous étiez un bon copain, mon dernier copain. J'espère que vous vivrez et que vous défendrez ce que nous aimions : un socialisme fier, viril. Moi, je n'avais plus qu'un pied dans la politique l'autre était déjà ailleurs. . . Je vous embrasse. Drieu". Lucien Combelle reçut cette lettre en 1947, dans la prison où il effectuait sa condamnation pour collaborationnisme. Autodidacte, Lucien Combelle (Rouen, 1913-Rouen, 1995) fut le secrétaire d'André Gide (1936) puis de Drieu la Rochelle (1940). Collaborationniste, il participa à la revue "La Gerbe" puis devint directeur du journal "Révolution nationale". À l'issue d'un procès en 1944, il fut condamné à quinze ans de travaux forcés. A sa libération conditionnelle, en 1951, il publia notamment "Je dois à André Gide" (1951), "Prison de l'espérance" (1952) et "Péché d'orgueil" (1978). Puis sa carrière se poursuivit dans la bande dessinée et à la radio. Bon exemplaire.
