Add to basketHardcover. Condition: Very Good. Dust Jacket Condition: Fair. Here is a book by World War One hero Arthur Guy Empey, famous for his exploits in the war, but also for his famous book "Over the Top" . In this book Empey laid it all out : the brutal reality of life and battle in the trenches - and No Man's Land. On the rear of the…dust-jacket (which has amazingly survived) is printed a description of Empey's service : |> For a year and a half, until he fell wounded in No Man's Land, this American soldier saw more actual fighting and real warfare than any other war correspondent who has written about the war, His experiences are grim, but they are thrilling and lightened by a touch of humor as original as the Soldiers Three. And they are TRUE. <| On the front of the dust-jacket is this: |> Sergeant Empey now goes on to [inform] the new soldier what confronts him all the way from training camp [to the] trench He shows the mother [ and the] father, what their boy is doing each day; what they, what every American can do to help him. The Suggestions about Things Overlooked in Other Books will safeguard our boys in France. <| TITLE : First Call - "Guide Post to Berlin" AUTHOR : Arthur Guy Empey (1883 - 1963) IMPRINT : G. P. BINDING -- The text-block is slightly shaken, but the whole remains solid with no detached or loose leaves. It is obvious that the book has been read. No signatures, no writing or marginalia. DUST-JACKET -- The jacket has received the brunt of time's passage, having done its duty, protecting the book's cover; the jacket is missing about half of the spine panel; there is a serious wrinkle and a tear to the bottom edge of the front panels, including small loss; the rear panel has a crease and tear at the top edge next to the spine panel - at which there is also small loss.
