A first edition, first printing published by Weidenfeld and Nicolson in 1959. 8vo. pp 273. Original publisher's blue cloth, lettered gilt at the spine. The publisher's own retained copy with their stamp on the front endpaper reading 'Weidenfeld Library'. A very good book in like wrapper which has a small indentation to the front panel. 'Fade Out' by Douglas Woolf is a poignant novella that explores the life of an aging man grappling with obscurity and obsolescence. The protagonist, once a minor film actor, now struggles with isolation and the passage of time in a society that has forgotten him. Woolf masterfully uses minimalism and sharp, lyrical prose to depict the internal decay of a man fading from relevance. It's a meditation on identity, memory, and the impermanence of fame.
