Taschenbuch. Condition: Neu. This item is printed on demand - it takes 3-4 days longer - Neuware -This book presents experimental data on fly ash obtained from a thermal power station. Lime was used as a blend material to study its effect on various engineering properties of fly ash. Proctor compaction tests, unconfined compression tests and Proctor needle penetration tests were performed on lime-fly ash blends. Effect of curing on unconfined compressive strength was also studied. Addition of lime to fly ash decreased the maximum dry density and increased the optimum moisture content. 4% lime was found to be the optimum content with regard to unconfined compressive strength for all curing periods. Penetration resistance also reached its maximum value at 4 % lime and thereafter decreased with increasing lime content. 52 pp. Englisch.…

Taschenbuch. Condition: Neu. This item is printed on demand - it takes 3-4 days longer - Neuware -Expansive soils are highly problematic by virtue of their innate capacity to undergo volume changes corresponding to changes in moisture regime. They swell and shrink respectively when water is absorbed in rainy seasons and when water evaporates in summers. As a result, lightly loaded civil engineering infrastructure founded in these soils are severely damaged. Many innovative foundation practices have been suggested for mitigating the problems posed by expansive soils. Some of these techniques are physical and chemical alteration and special foundation techniques in the form of tension-resistant foundations. This monograph presents experimental work on the effective use of lime and fly ash in reducing swelling and shrinkage of expansive soils. The tests conducted to find out swell potential and swelling pressure and other important engineering properties of the expansive clay samples blended with lime and fly ash have yielded useful results. 80 pp. Englisch.…

Taschenbuch. Condition: Neu. This item is printed on demand - it takes 3-4 days longer - Neuware -Expansive soils, popularly known as black cotton soils in India, are highly problematic, as they swell on absorbing water and shrink on evaporation thereof. Because of this alternate swelling and shrinkage, civil engineering structures founded in them are severely damaged. For reducing heave of foundations in expansive soil different techniques such as sand cushion, the cohesive non-swelling (CNS) layer, belled piers, under-reamed piles and granular pile-anchors were suggested. Stabilization of expansive clays with various additives has also been successfully practised. In this work effect of fly ash on free swell index (FSI), swell potential, swelling pressure, coefficient of consolidation, compression index, secondary consolidation characteristics and shear strength has been studied. The contents of fly ash have been varied as 0, 10% and 20%. The blend of expansive clay with 20% fly ash showed significant reduction in swell potential, swelling pressure, compression index and secondary consolidation characteristics. A fly ash content of 20% also resulted in maximum increase in maximum dry density and shear strength. 76 pp. Englisch.…
