Eric has inserted (tipped in and also loosely inserted) several related illustrations and articles including quite fascinatingly, Bell & Hyman's flyer in which they announce that 'Drawings of British Plants' is nearing completion. Some spotting to fore-edge of text block o/w. a fine hardback in vg. plus dw. Stella Ross-Craig, who died in February 2006, is said to be the finest and most comprehensive illustrator of British Flora, described by Wilfred Blunt as 'unrivalled' in her field. Her 'Drawings of British Plants' took 26 years to complete and comprises 1,306 plates.

Light partial sunning to the wrapper spines, not affecting the legibility of the titles etc, otherwise very clean and sharp. Fine in near fine wrappers. A heavy set of books weighing c8000g when suitably parcelled, thus exceeding the default weight of 1000g for the postage quotation, and invoking a request for the extra postage at cost at time of order ( or can be supplied on request ) if to be sent overseas or by UK post.

With a complete index to the work. Written and illustrated by Stella Ross-Craig, an English illustrator best known as a prolific illustrator of native flora. In the original full cloth binding. Externally, excellent. Original unclipped dust wrapper is also excellent with minor sunning to the spine. Internally, firmly bound. Pages are very bright and clean throughout. Fine. book.

Parts one, two and three bound in one. Presentation plate on the front endpaper to the Kew botanist Vicki Matthews (Merchant Taylors' school for girls). Copiously illustrated in black and white throughout. Published in 1948-9. Slight rubbing to extremities, otherwise very good.

Final volume of the collection XXVII to XXXI is missing. Parts I-III have some damage to spines which has been repaired the rest are in very good condition with bright illustrations. Also, a loose set of index. Overall, a very good set of these beautiful and comprehensive illustrations. A heavy set which will require extra postage.

Dated from 1948 to 1974, the earlier volumes are in Acceptable to Good condition with wear to slightly grubby covers and spines, and some light flecking to edges. The later issues are in Good to Very Good condition, and the 'middling' issues are between the two, of course. The interiors of all are clean and bright. The hardback index is in Very Good condition, with similar dustjacket. Overall grading for the set - Good. It is unusual to find the set complete, especially with index, so please note we will not split. B/w illustrations of flowering plants that occur naturally in the British Isles. An almost complete run of 29 volumes, parts 30 & 31 missing. Volume I is a first edition, 1948. Volume XXIX is a first edition 1972. Almost all copies covered in clear laminate, some of the older copies have tape to spine (under the clear laminate). Covers are browned. Neat name in ink to top of front covers. Front endpapers have a small, neat identification number. A few hinges are pulled. Contents are otherwise clean. Packaged with care and promptly dispatched!
