xx,576 pp. Octavo. Bound in a modern half morocco and marbled boards binding. Corners to match. Gilt title on the spine. New endpapers. Colour lithographic frontis along with 5 other lithographic plates. Two folding maps. 27 wood engravings in text by Whymper. A touch of light soiling, more on the preliminaries otherwise a very attractive clean copy. Neate G 15. The copy of Steve Fossett with his ballooning bookplate on the front pastedown. The two authors were members of the Alpine Club in London. The colour plates are by Gilbert and are delightful. Certainly an early and classic Alpine title. Getting scarce to find a collectable copy with this example having a nice association.
