First Edition
Soft cover. Condition: New. 1st Edition. Paperback. Roy. 8vo. (24 x 17 cm). In English. 79, [1] p. A new discourse, dialogue and democracy against discrimination ASULIS. Translated by Liz Erçelik Amado, Irazca Geray. Founded under the Hrant Dink Foundation, ASULIS Discourse, Dialogue, Democracy Laboratory has been designed as an interdisciplinary space to engage from experimental studies and research in the field of discourse studies to conduct discussions on methods to combat discrimination as well as discriminatory discourse and its consequences. The word asulis, which is composed of the combination of the verbs asel (to say) and lsel (to listen) in Armenian and commonly used as conversation and chat was chosen as the name of the laboratory. ASULIS represents a first in Turkey in terms of an organization to engage in activities on discourse studies. The gathering resources on discriminatory discourse, hate speech, discourse analysis, etc. for the ASULIS Collection established under the Hrant Dink Foundation Library is still in process. The first ASULIS report is prepared with the main support of Open Society Foundation and contributions of Istanbul Policy Center and Danish Ministry of Foreign Affairs' MyMedia Programme based on its preparation process during the 2014-2015 period. The sections of the report include short definitions of different concepts (such as hate speech, discriminatory discourse and dangerous speech), the research conducted on hate speech between 2009-2015 by the Foundation, suggestions for the laboratory's methods and areas of work based on the meetings and panels organized during its preparatory process as well as the vision, mission and structure of ASULIS.

Hardcover. Condition: New. Punitive patriarchy deeply entrenched in its socio-cultural norms has induced gender discrimination and sustained unfair gender practices in India over centuries. Instead of proscribing biased treatment towards women, Indian social structure promotes disparity, misogyny and stigmatization. The institutionalized sets of values and principles propagated by patriarchal dogmas continue to inflict miseries on women under the garb of socio-cultural practices. The fact-based data on Indian women and their lived experiences as women in Indian society conforms largely to the imagery of an object and inferior being and banish them from the larger process of economic and political inclusion in general. The present book entitled Gender Inequality and Discrimination in India: Discourse and Dilemmas encompasses into various spheres of gender exclusion and inclusion emanating several thematic conversations by scholars who addressed gender discrimination and misogyny as a dominant tool to subjugate Indian women and womanhood as subterranean concern. This edited collection of articles attempt to develop a wider gamut of understanding of the nature and importance of gender equality, gender roles and gender relations in the developmental processes, with a special focus on socio-political and cultural issues of post-globalised Indian society. This theoretical framework can be applied to promote gender awareness and equity in the developmental interventions; and impregnate organizational and institutional culture with newer insights. The book is weaved around gender as a core theme, predominantly from a feminist perspective.

Hardback. Condition: New. A realistic view of the past should provide a critical understanding of the present, in which discourse producers (including translators and interpreters) must be seen in their socio-political, cultural context. Communication is often hindered by linguistic, cultural, or behavioral differences in the interaction between service providers and service seekers. While there is an extensive literature (sociology, psychology) on different types of discrimination, classified either by its cause (sex, gender, religion), its context (workplace discrimination, border areas), or its consequences (stress, self-stigma, distress), narratives of discrimination seem to be less explored. This volume aims to provide an updated overview of the many facets of intercultural communication and its realities. It emphasizes narratives of otherness and their (conscious or unconscious) presence in policies, social or professional relations, and positive discrimination as a corrective.
