Canaday was a New York Times art critic for seventeen years and later in life he wrote restaurant reviews for the Times. All Vintage Paperbacks come sealed in 2.5 mil plastic bag and taped closed with removable tape which will not tear the covers if it sticks to them when the book is removed. The first of four Dr. Mary Finney novels, set in the Belgian Congo. The author John Canaday, long-time art critic at the New York Times, has inscribed this copy "Lucky Hoop! p. 87 / Caroline from John 'Matthew Head'" to Caroline Houser, a noted Greek art historian and professor at Smith College. On the referenced page Gabrielle Boutegourde relinquishes her virginity to Hooper Taliaferro.Dust jacket is now housed in a removable clear archival sleeve. H.
