Baykov (1899-1963), a Russian emigre who left the U.S.S.R. in 1920, worked for years at Prokopovich's Russian Economic Study Centre in Prague and lectured on the Soviet economy at the Czech Technical University before becoming head of the Department of Economics and Institutions of the U.S.S.R. at Birmingham University. Published by Cambridge in 1946 ahead of the 1947 American issue.
