Rebacked, with the contemporary tree calf boar…ds and later crushed morocco spine, with cloth spine label. Renewed endpapers. Bound with the original blanks and half title. Missing the title page, with bibliographical information drawn from a copy held by Hathi Trust. With a frontispiece and an engraved vignette for each animal. Thomas Boreman was one of the earliest English children's book publishers, with this title first published c1730. It is also said that his works inspired Buffon's publication of the Histoire naturelle. As the title suggests, this volume offers descriptions of upwards of three hundred animals, organised into quadrupeds, birds, fishes and reptiles. Overviews of the characteristics, habitats and behaviours are given for each animal, together with occasional personal observations and anecdotes of the author. Rebacked, with the contemporary tree calf boards and later crushed morocco spine, with cloth spine label. Externally, smart, with rubbing to the original boards, with loss to the upper front corner. Light marks to the boards. Internally, firmly bound. Pages are generally bright, with a few scattered spots. Very Good. Not Stated (illustrator). book.
