Philippe Danfrie (1531-1606) a gravé lui-même ces caractères et a également dessiné et gravé l'illustration de ce bel ouvrage. Le graphomètre, un demi-cercle, est un instrument de son invention. "Tel que l'a décrit Danfrie, et tel qu'il l'a réalisé, pour l'essentiel, le graphomètre a connu une carrière de deux siècles. .
