Hardcover. Condition: Fine. Dust Jacket Condition: Fine. Carroll, Ruth & Latrobe (illustrator). 1st Edition. 1ST PRT. VERY SCARCE IN THIS CONDITION. Fine hardback in fine DJ. Delightful 48pp picture book about young Danny & his missionary parents who are living in Hawaii in 1820. Danny works hard to save a little black pup from being eaten (he succeeds!) & also teaches the young Prince Koko the English alphabet. The book has 5 great illustrated pages showing the Prince twisting his body into shapes of all 26 alphabet letters! This is wonderful tale of HAWAII in the early 19th century, with color illus of island terrain, the ocean, the costumes, festivals, little puppy & kitten, etc.

In additon to most of the usual library markings, free endpapers are tape-stained. Upper and lower edges of covers have black stains. The text and illustrations are clean and free f morks or writing. Size: 4to - over 9¾" - 12" tall. Ex-Library.

Hardcover. Condition: Very Good. Nice clean first printing. Yellow cloth boards with pictorial jacket. Price intact. Solid with evidence of page turning. Page 17 has a crease on the corner. Interesting alphabet graphics, too. Jacket has some shelfwear, mostly at corners with minor loss at spine. A few half inch closed tears to edge. Inked price to front endpaper and a child's name markered to the title page.
