Red faded hard cover with designs and red and black lettering on cover and spine. Two small round imprints and indentations near the top of front cover and first few pages--appears to have been made by heavy object which pressed into book. Otherwise minor shelf wear. Page edges darkened. Rare vintage novel.

Hardcover. Condition: Very Good. No Jacket. 1st Edition. THE DANGER MARK BY ROBERT W. CHAMBERS 1909 D. APPLETON & CO. 1ST A.B. WENZEL ART. The Author Robert W. Chambers achieved some fame with his early works but apparently turned to romantic fiction to earn a better living. Those works were panned by some of his fellow literati and critics who felt he could do better but well accepted by the readers. I am happy to offer one of the examples of his works of romantic fiction, this one titled: The Danger Mark. This small-sized hard cover book (5x 7 ½ inches, 496 pages) was published by D. Appleton & Co. of New York and London, dated 1909, an apparent First Edition and I believe also the First Printing (there is a (1) at the bottom of the last page, an indicator according to my research of the First Printing). The book is bound in red cloth with a wide-wail weave pattern on the cover and a decorative white title panel and white titles on the spine. The book is illustrated by A.B. Wenzel with a frontispiece and 7 other full-page, blank on the reverse illustrations, typically men and women in period fancy dress (all present and accounted for; I checked). Condition: This book is in very good condition. The hard covers are generally clean and bright, especially the front cover. The spine is a bit faded and so too the white titles found there but still fully legible and presentable. Inside, the book is unmarked although I perceive an erasure on the front endpaper, impossible to really see and decipher. The interior pages are bright white and clean throughout except for a few pages that have a small blot from the top (pp. 286-306) which does not affect the text in any way. Both hinges are intact, and the binding is tight and sound. This book is not ex-library or a remainder.
