First and only edition, first impression; considerably scarce in the dust jacket. Mayers was a prominent Kidderminster-based carpet-designer, "perhaps the most successful public designer of his era" (Haslam, Arts & Crafts Carpets, p. 32); his richly illustrated survey covers all aspects of design and manufacture, from 20th-centu…ry methods (Jacquard, Chenille, Axminster) to the traditional styles prevalent in Iran and the lands of the former Ottoman Empire. Large octavo. Colour frontispiece and 8 similar plates, 27 half-tone plates, 12 sketches to the text. Original green buckram, titles and publisher's device to front board gilt. With dust jacket. 2 leaves of advertisements to rear. Extremities rubbed as usual, cloth slightly faded, all plates bright and fresh. A very good copy in the clean dust jacket with a very faint crease to front panel and a minute hole to the spine.
