Hard cover, 16 mo, (3 1/2 x 6 1/4 inches) in green quarter cloth over plain pasteboard, includes the 16pp. "Boston Annual Advertiser" plus 518 pp., plus errata and several loose advertising pages at back. Features a separate seven page directory titled "People of Color" at the back, which may be the first time such a register has been included in this city Directory. CONDITION: Very Good Minus. Seems to be lacking the printed labels which should be on the the outer pasteboards. This does not have a map. Front hinge cracked. Binding is firm. A couple of prelims are loose and laid in,( in the correct order) both at front and rear. Text block edges a bit stained or spotted. The gilt title to the spine is mostly now illegible. Now protected in mylar. **Sabin tells us that Charles Stimson Jr. published this Directory annually from 1829-1846. (The earliest was produced in 1789.) A useful tool for the genealogist, sociologist, or other historical researcher. This is a scarce item in any condition and a real piece of Americana. Rinderknecht and Bruntjen (1992) 42-4678 p. 367. An interesting and at times entertaining directory of this great American city in the early days of th Republic, covering African Americans, directions, homes, businesses, medical professionals, and more. A fun artifact of New England history.
