Hard cover, 16 mo, (3 1/2 x 6 1/4 inches) in green quarter cloth over plain pasteboard, includes the 16pp. "Boston Annual Advertiser" plus 518 pp., plus errata and several loose advertising pages at back. Features a separate seven page directory titled "People of Color" at the back, which may be the first time such a register has been included in this city Directory. CONDITION: Very Good Minus. Seems to be lacking the printed labels which should be on the the outer pasteboards. This does not have a map. Front hinge cracked. Binding is firm. A couple of prelims are loose and laid in,( in the correct order) both at front and rear. Text block edges a bit stained or spotted. The gilt title to the spine is mostly now illegible. Now protected in mylar. **Sabin tells us that Charles Stimson Jr. published this Directory annually from 1829-1846. (The earliest was produced in 1789.) A useful tool for the genealogist, sociologist, or other historical researcher. This is a scarce item in any condition and a real piece of Americana. Rinderknecht and Bruntjen (1992) 42-4678 p. 367.
