Dies führt unwillkürlich zu der Frage, wie solche Emotionen entstehen.In diesem Zusammenhang liefert eine populäre Theorie in den Kognitionswissenschaften, das Bayesian Brain, ein attraktives vereinigendes Rahmenmodell, um die Wahrnehmung, die Kognition, die Aktion, sowie alle mentalen Zwischenvorgänge erklären zu können. Bisher wurde dieses Modell allerdings hauptsächlich im Kontext der Exterozeption, bei der die Beziehung zwischen dem Gehirn und der externen Welt im Fokus steht, ausgearbeitet.
