This pamphlet, extracted from La Revue Universelle des Arts, provides additional information not contained in Adam Bartsch's work on seventeenth painters and engravers of the Netherlands nor in Rudolph Weigel's supplement to it. It includes notes on Simon de Vlieger, Karle Dujardin, Adrien van de Velde, and Herman Saftleven. The pamphlet is lightly creased about one half inch from the top. The wrappers have slight wear and tearing at the edges. A loosely laid-in bookplate indicates that this copy came from the reference library and stock of H.P. Kraus.

Auch im Bereich der Kunst verdichtete sich die Diskussion über den Wert der Kunst, ihr Studium und den Aspekt, den Kennerschaft dabei zu spielen hatte. Innerhalb dieses Prozesses kam der Reproduktionsgraphik nach Handzeichnungen eine wachsende Bedeutung zu, denn man verstand die auf Papier realisierten Kunstwerke als vielfach erste, unmittelbare Formulierungen der künstlerischen Idee und somit als Ausdruck ihres Genies. Das Geheimnis lag in der Komposition und in den sie individuell realisierenden Strichen, die nun mittels der Reproduktionsgraphik angemessen und nachvollziehbar einem größeren Publikum zu Studien- und Bildungszwecken zur Verfügung gestellt werden konnten. Das adäquate Kopieren - copy.right, verstanden als künstlerische Übersetzung des Vorbilds, erreichte eine neue Qualität, die mit innovativen Drucktechniken verbunden war. In diesem Prozess spielte Adam von Bartsch (1757-1821) eine wichtige Rolle. Als Kustos der Graphischen Sammlung der Wiener Hofbibliothek ist er heute Fachwissenschaftlern als »Vater der wissenschaftlichen Kupferstichkunde« und Autor des »Peintre-Graveur« bekannt. Er war aber gleichzeitig ein subtiler, hochversierter Reproduktionsgraphiker. In Bartschs wissenschaftlichem wie künstlerischem OEuvre spiegelt sich der zeitgenössische Diskurs über Originalität und den Wert der Druckgraphik - Aspekte, die aktuell diskutiert werden.
