Hardcover. 48p., slender hardcover, very good, in a shelfworn dustjacket. *Miles 4961. "Chaplin was imprisoned on the charge of conspiring to obstruct the war. As a member of the I.W.W., he spoke against it, saying it would benefit the capitalists while using the workers as cannon fodder. His poems reflect this commitment." *Daniel Suvak, Memoirs of American prisons: an annotated bibliography. Metuchen, 1979. #383.

Hardcover. Condition: Good. Dust Jacket Condition: Good. 1st Edition. Introduction by Scott Nearing. 1st. 1st printing. Gift inscription by Mary E Brite, dated Cincinnati sept 13/1922 " To Mary D Clark - In memory of some pleasant hours spent with her, Mary D. Brite." Enclosed is a small sheet of writing paper printed with Mary D. Brite's name and Cincinnati address and on the reverse is a manual type-written poem by Langston Hughes, "The Negro Speaks of Rivers." Beneath it in neat handwriting is "by Langston Hughes", but it does not appear to be in Brite's handwriting. Mary D. Brite seems to have had some communist and anarchist sympathies. In a letter to a condemned prisoner she refers to him as "Comrade". The book has two or three pinholes in the spine of the DJ, which go on through the spine of the book. and the Dj has a little rubbing and a couple of short splits.
