It contains some hitherto unpublished experimental results together with theoretical considerations of certain aspects of this field of science. In the first chapter a brief consideration is given of the energy levels in pure and perturbed crystals In four further chapters new experimental results are reported concerning come particular luminescent systems, viz., tungstates, molybdates and luminophors activated by manganese, titanium and uranium.
