Includes the benefits of eating Dandelion "with plenty of nourishing food and outdoor excersise, the Dandelion may prove to be sufficient medicine…for the restoration of health." Also how to flavour peas with mint, d how to cook red cabbage with loaf sugar, vinegar and worcester sauce. Front seam has cracked but not split, covers lightly soiled but still a robust and complete copy.

With three pages of original publisher's advertisements and a monochrome plate illustration of Sutton & Sons' Seed Establishment, Reading, at the rear of the work. This is a distinctive Victorian-era culinary guide that reflects the domestic efficiency of this period. This copy offers practical instructions for the preparation and cooking of a variety of vegetables, including artichoke, beetroot, cabbage, celery and more.Sutton & Sons has been a major producer of flower and vegetable seeds since the nineteenth century. Sutton & Sons has played a significant role in supporting the British agricultural industry during the First World War, with Suttons' staff being deemed indispensable enough so as to be disqualified from National Service by the Board of Agriculture. In the original publisher's full cloth binding. Externally, generally smart with some minor handling marks. Slight bumping to the head and tail of the spine and the extremities. Evidence of damp staining, particularly to rear board. Cockling to endpapers. Internally, firmly bound. Some damp staining to the fore edge of the final leaves, stained pink by the red pigment of the cloth. Otherwise, bright, clean pages with slight age toning and the odd spot throughout, heavier to the first and last few leaves. Scattered spotting to the half-title page. Very Good.
