Paperback. Condition: New. Print on Demand. This book investigates the relationship between the electromagnetic field and matter. The author explores a theory of the electromagnetic field consistent with modern interpretations of chemical, optical, and magnetic phenomena in terms of electrically charged particles. A particular case of such a theory was proven to explain the phenomenon of aberration in 1892 by H.A. Lorentz. This book extends Lorentz's work to a theory of the drifting medium where the ether is stationary and material media drift through it. The author finds that a medium which is isotropic when stationary behaves when drifting like a uniaxial crystal. The book includes investigations into the values of stresses in an electromagnetic field in accordance with several possible hypotheses, extending the work of Maxwell, Helmholtz, Kirchhoff, and Lorberg by considering neglected factors which appear to the author to be of some importance. The author concludes that their theory yields a system of stresses consistent with a fluid medium in equilibrium. This book is a reproduction of an important historical work, digitally reconstructed using state-of-the-art technology to preserve the original format. In rare cases, an imperfection in the original, such as a blemish or missing page, may be replicated in the book. print-on-demand item.

Buch. Condition: Neu. Neuware - In this book, Gilbert T Walker explores various problems related to the electromagnetic field, including the phenomenon of aberration in optics. He provides a detailed analysis of the mathematical equations that govern these problems, making it a valuable resource for students of physics and engineering.

Taschenbuch. Condition: Neu. Druck auf Anfrage Neuware - Printed after ordering - Originally published in 1900, this book contains the text of the Adams Prize-winning essay for 1899, which attempts to construct a theory of the electromagnetic field 'consistent with the modern interpretation of chemical, optical and magnetic phenomena in terms of electrically charged particles'. Walker became an expert on the science of climate and was knighted in 1924, and this early essay is a good example of his early interest in electromagnetism. This book will be of value to anyone with an interest in electromagnetism or the early work of Sir Gilbert Walker.
