Taschenbuch. Condition: Neu. This item is printed on demand - it takes 3-4 days longer - Neuware -In 'The Making of Americans,' Gertrude Stein embarks on an ambitious exploration of identity and cultural formation, employing a distinctive literary style characterized by repetitive structures and a stream-of-consciousness narrati…ve. The work defies traditional plot conventions, focusing instead on the inner lives and interconnectedness of its characters as they navigate the shifting landscape of American society. Stein's prose, marked by its lyrical quality and rhythmic cadence, invites readers to immerse themselves in the complexities of American identity from the late 19th to early 20th century, capturing both the mundane and the profound in a manner that reflects the fragmentation of modernity. Gertrude Stein, a pivotal figure in the avant-garde movement, drew from her experiences as a member of the expatriate community in Paris, where she developed unique insights into the evolving nature of selfhood. Her philosophical inquiries into the nature of existence and her encounters with contemporaneous artists and thinkers profoundly influenced her writing, culminating in this monumental work that seeks to articulate a new understanding of Americanness amidst a rapidly globalizing world. For readers interested in modernist literature, identity studies, or the evolution of American culture, 'The Making of Americans' is a crucial text that challenges preconceived notions and compels us to reflect on the intricate tapestry of our shared humanity. Stein's innovative approach to storytelling and deep psychological insight render this work an essential read for anyone intrigued by the interplay of individuality and collective experience. 604 pp. Englisch.

Taschenbuch. Condition: Neu. This item is printed on demand - it takes 3-4 days longer - Neuware -High Quality Content by WIKIPEDIA articles! A yellow-back is a cheap fiction novel which was published in Britain in the second half of the nineteenth century. They were occasionally called 'mustard-plaster' novels. Developed in the… 1840s to compete with the 'penny dreadful', Yellow-Backs were marketed as entertaining reading. They had brightly coloured covers that were attractive to a new class of readers, thanks to the spread of education and rail travel. Routledges were one of the first publishers to begin marketing Yellow-Backs by starting their 'Railway Library' in 1849. The series included 1,277 titles, published over 50 years. These mainly consisted of stereotyped reprints of fiction novels originally published as cloth editions. By the late nineteenth century, Yellow-Backs included sensational fiction, adventure stories, 'educational' manuals, handbooks, and cheap biographies. Some typical examples of authors of Yellow-Backs include Robert Louis Stevenson and James Grant. 92 pp. Englisch.

Yellow Back Radio Broke-Down, by the African-American writer Ishmael Reed, is a satirical take on the tr…aditional Western. It is Ishmael Reed''s second novel, following The Freelance Pallbearers, and was first published in 1969. It tells the story of the Loop Garoo Kid, an African-American cowboy who practices the religion of Neohoodooism, and describes his struggle against established religion and cultural oppression. Yellow Back Radio Broke-Down is a western that spans some three centuries of history and references locations from across the United States landscape. Through the three colorful protagonists, Chief Showcase, a Native-American, Drag Gibson, a white land capitalist, and the Loop Garoo Kid, an African-American cowboy, Reed criticizes the hypocrisy of the American Church, the warping of history to degrade the portrayal of African-Americans, and ways the 'white man' attempts to destroy the 'black man.' 104 pp. Englisch.
