Novelist, poet, and music professor Henry Bellamann is best known for his 1940 novel KINGS ROW. Bellamann enjoyed teaching and/or administrative positions at Chicora College [South Carolina], Julliard, Curtis Institute of Music, and Vassar College. His papers and those of his wife Katherine Jones Bellamann, a noted poet and author in her own right, are held by the University of Mississippi J.D. Semi-biographical season-by-season account (but with invented dialogue) of Francis William Thomas, better known as Frank W. Thomas (1898-1954) who played quarterback from 1920 to 1922 under Coach Knute Rockne at University of Notre Dame and after graduation worked as an assistant coach at the University of Georgia from 1923-1924. Thomas served as head coach at the University of Chattanooga (now The University of Tennessee at Chattanooga) from 1925 to 1928 with a return to Georgia as an assistant from 1929-1930 before becoming head coach at the University of Alabama from 1931 to 1946 with overlap and post-coaching employment as Alabama's athletic director from 1940 to 1952. Thomas compiled a career college football record of 141-33-9 with his record at Alabama being 115-24-7. Apparently COACH TOMMY OF THE CRIMSON TIDE is still the only book regarding Thomas despite his influence on successors Harold Drew and Paul "Bear" Bryant and his phenomenal coaching achievements of four Southeastern Conference titles, a national championship for the 1934 team, never having a losing season, twice having undefeated ten-win seasons, and also being a member of the College Football Hall of Fame. {SportsShelf#1}.…
