Trade Paperback. Condition: Near Fine. Second Printing. 264 pages. Leslie, son of doughnut magnate Jacob Siconski, returns home from a 20 year exile for his estranged father's funeral and the reading of the will. The old man has left his entire $27 million estate to his daughter, Mary, and to his eldest son, Charlie, whereabouts… unknown. As a young boy, Charlie begain suffering from panic attacks after surviving the car crash that killed his mother. The attacks eventually led to agoraphobia, and for nearly a decade he lived as a recluse in the family mansion. Then one day he vanished without a trace. Leslie decides to stay with his sister and her husband for a few days after the funeral. Out of the blue, they receive a phone call from a detective in central Wisconsin. A badly beaten corpse has been found outside the town of Baraboo and identified as Charlie. Baraboo, home of the Circus World Museum, is where Charlies' father had taken him to help him recover form the trauma of his mother's death. Leslie's attempt to uncover the truth of his brother's apparent murder devolves into a mad adventure. He learns that Charlie had taken to living in a homemade shelter near an Indian burial mound and had come to be regarded by members of the Ho-Chunk tribe as the reincarnation of a god, sent back to see vengeance on Buffalo Bill. To the cirus peopole he had become a comic and musical legend. In his search for answers Leslie deals with a portly police detective, an ancient immigrant farmer, an Indian shaman, a dreamy tattoo artist, and Charlie's lover, an amorous librarian, an abused and neglected aerialist, and a nervous naturalist. Charlie, it seems, was the first person to run away and have the circus join him. Signed by Author(s).

DETAILS: fine dust-jacket, cover price $27.95, fresh attractive copy, near fine black and brown hardcover, with silver spine titles, appears unused but front hinge makes a creaking sound, no apparent reason. ARKIN, WILLIAM M. Code names: deciphering US military plans, progra…ms, and operations in the 9/11 world. Hanover, N.H.: Steerforth Press, 2005, stated First Edition, 608pp., . "In the 9/11 world, U.S. military and intelligence organizations have created secret plans, programs, and operations at a frenzied pace, each with their own code name. In a perfect world, all of this secrecy would be to protect legitimate secrets from prying foreign eyes, but instead its intention appears to be to ensure that politically important information that ought to be in the public domain remains concealed--unreported by the press and shielded from the scrutiny of the American electorate. [This book] identifies more than 3,000 code names and details the plans and missions for which they stand" - CONTENTS: Cast of characters -- Activities by country -- Code names -- Acronyms and glossary. 9781586420833 ISBN 1586420836.
