Injuries in these areas can almost always be successfully treated by the techniques described in the 'AS IF Manual of Internal Fixation,' followed by early exercises. The fixation of small fragments which are of such biomechanical importance, has hitherto given indifferent results, especially when the distal parts of the hand and foot are involved. The implants and instruments developed by Dr. Heim and tried out by AS IF members during recent years have now been assembled into a 'small fragment set,' which is now available. These implants have significantly expanded the scope of AS IF instrumentation for internal fixation. Pannike first compared the application of the small fragment set with the conventional methods used in hand surgery. I concentrate myself on the study of sur faces in the Euclidean 3-space, this being the most natural object for investigation. The global differential geometry of surfaces in E3 is based on two classical results: (i) the ovaloids (i.e., closed surfaces with positive Gauss curvature) with constant Gauss or mean curvature are the spheres, (ü) two isometrie ovaloids are congruent. The results presented here show vast generalizations of these facts. Up to now, there is only one book covering this area of research: the Lecture Notes [3] written in the tensor slang. In my book, I am using the machinary of E. Cartan's calculus. It should be equivalent to the tensor calculus; nevertheless, using it I get better results (but, honestly, sometimes it is too complicated). It may be said that almost all results are new and belong to myself (the exceptions being the introductory three chapters, the few classical results and results of my post graduate student Mr. M. Distinct conceptions of global justice differ in their specific criteria of global justice. And global institutional reforms could greatly enhance human rights fullfillment in the future. The importance of this global justice approach reaches well beyond philosophy. It helps ordinary citizens evaluate their options and their responsibility for global institutional factors, and it challenges social scientists to address the causes of poverty and hunger that act across borders. Moreover, education as a quasi-public good has drawn ever more heavily on public budgets. British and American economists do share a common inheritance that goes back to Benthamite utilitarianism and a common training in neo-classical economic theory even when one or both of these is challenged (which happens, of course, on both sides of the Atlantic). They share also a culture of political democracy despite important dissimilar ities in governmental structures and institutions. Research-level nuclear magnet ic resonance and infra-red spectra are already obtained almost exclusively by Fourier transform methods, because Fourier transform NMR and IR spectrometers have been commercially available since the late 1960 s. Similar transform techniques are equally valuable (but less well-known) for a wide range of other chemical applications for which commercial instruments are only now becoming available: for example, the first corrmercial Fourier transform mass spectrometer was introduced this year (1981) by Nicolet Instrument Corporation. The purpose of this volume is to acquaint practicing chemists with the basis, advantages, and applica of Fourier, Hadamard, and Hilbert transforms in chemistry. Neuware -The symposium on 'Neutral Clouds near HII Regions' was prompted by an obvious need to bring together workers specifically interested in the dynamical and photochemical effects in regions showing clear evidence of on-going star formation. This is currently an are a of considerable research activity with much new observational material over the wavelength range from X-ray to radio. Furthermore, the field isbeginning to mature. No longer is molecular spectroscopy concerned only with the search for new lines and with preliminary surveys. No longer are evolving HII regions modelled with the naive assumption of constant density. Similarly, ideas of successive star formation, 'champagne' and 'blister' models of HII regions, and refinements to abundance calculations are examples which show that theoretical initiative is keeping pace. We were both surprised and gratified by the number of contributed papers and the extent to which they addressed the subject matter. In the proceedings we have grouped these papers near the most appropriate of the four invited review papers. The subjects of these reviews are in the general areas of 'Evolution of HII Regions', 'Dynamical Interactions', 'Chemistry in Active Regions' and 'Infrared and Maser Sources'. The report presents the results of a pilot study of the risks to the employees in, and the population around six industrial installations. The installations were selected to illustrate various materials and technologies present in this area e.g. toxic, flammable, cryogenic and pressure storage. The report consists of 5 parts: Part I is the report of the Steering Committee, which managed the whole project. It contains the background, the aims of the study, conclusions, general comments and recommendations. Part 2, the main report by Cremer and Warner Ltd., presents the way the risk analysis of the six industrial installations was performed. Appendices I to VII contain the calculation models used (dischar ge rates, dispersion, combustion, etc.). Die Verbesserung des Lebensstandards, des 6ffentlichen Gesundheitswesens und der medizinischen Diagnostik hat in den meisten Landern die Bedeutung neo plastischer Erkrankungen als Ursache von Morbiditat und Mortalitat starker in den Vordergrund treten lassen und zu einer Zunahme der relativen Haufigkeit dieser Krankheiten gefuhrt. Damit stiegen aber auch die Erwartungen an die Medizin, sich mehr mit den Krebserkrankungen auseinander zusetzen und die therapeutischen Ergebnisse schrittweise zu verbessern. Voraussetzung hierfur ist, daB sich die Arzte allgemein nicht nur vermehrt mit dem klinischen Bild, son dern auch mit den wissenschaftlichen Grundsatzen der Diagnose und der Behandlung von Krebskrankheiten ver traut machen. Dabei sollten die Grundsatze schon in die vor klinische Ausbildung aufgenommen werden, damit sie spater zum festen Bestandteil des Rustzeugs der meisten Arzte werden. Friiher erfolgte die arztliche Beschiiftigung mit der Krebs krankheit in erster Linie organbezogen. Folgerichtig lag denn auch die Behandlung in den Handen der entsprechenden Organspezialisten. Dies fiihrte dazu, daB die allen TUlllor arten zugrunde liegenden Gemeinsamkeiten bezuglich Ent stehung, Wachstum und Ausbreitung sowie Fruherfassung und Behandlung vernachlassigt wurden. Diese Aufsplitterung hat spater zu einer Vereinheitlichung der Betrachtungsweise und zum Begriff der klinischen Onkologie gefuhrt. Neuware -The theme chosen for the seventh conference of Dutch and British historians - relations between Church and State in the two countries since the Reformation - cannot pretend to any originality. A subject so germane to the history of Europe, and indeed of those parts of the world colonized by Europeans and evangelized by the Christian churches, has naturally attracted the attention of numerous scholars. The particular attraction of this study of the action and reaction of Church and State in Britain and the Netherlands lies in the scope it offers historians and political scientists for making comparisons be tween two states, both of which endorsed the Protestant Reformation while rejecting absolutism. But the dissimilarities are quite as striking. In the Netherlands the Reformed Church came to hold a curiously equivocal position, being neither an established Church in the English sense nor an independent sect. Yet even after the formal separation of Church and State in 1796 and the rise to political prominence of Dutch Catholicism, ties of sentiment continued to link the Dutch nation and the Reformed Church for some time to come.
