Paperback. Small format, oblong shape. Very Good condition. Not Inscribed, Fully illustrated. 60 Pages. The steam locomotive has been the principal form of traction on the railways of Britain for well over a hundred years. It remained virtually unrivalled as far as most duties were concerned until the last twent years. Since then the Diesel Engine and The Electric Generator have begun to encroach on its ground. There are no longer any steam locomotives being built for British Railways. The last one No 92220 'Evening Star' was built at the Swindon works in March 1960. This is a record of some of the fine old steam engines - they have not been selected because of any special merits, they are just some of the engine's which existed at the beginning of 1960.
