This book presents the commentary and critique of French Art Critic Jean Francois Lyotard with the very vivid paintings of Californian Artist Sam Francis. It is titled: Lessons of Darkness, although I cannot see how the title applies. You will linger on both the paintings and the words. This large hard cover book (11 ¾ x 13 ¼ inches, unpaginated but about 100 pages) was published by The Lapis Press of Venice, California, dated 1993. There are 42 color illustrations although some seem to run for several pages and another 7 of them are large fold-outs. The book is bound in glossy, paper covered boards which present one of the paintings, and include dark red titles on the spine. Condition: This book is in very good condition. The hard covers are clean, bright and glossy, with one small chip out of the spine (where someone carelessly removed a small label perhaps) and a bit of scuffing to the finish. Inside, the book is unmarked and the pages and plates are bright and clean throughout. Both hinges are fully intact, and the binding is tight and sound. This book is not ex-library or a remainder.
