Traducción desconocida a Atkinson y a Haller (Chirurgica, I, p. 256-257).- // La primera obra impresa del gran anatomista de la Universidad de Padua, Hyeronimus Fabricius ab Aquapendente, discípulo de Gabriele Falloppio (y su sucesor en la cátedra) y maestro y amigo de William Harvey, fueron las lecciones de cirugía que uno de sus estudiantes, Johann Hartmann Beyer, editó e imprimió sin su consentimiento primero en Frankfurt, en 1592, cuando Fabrizi tenía 55 años, bajo el título de Pentateuchos cheirurgicum, y más tarde, también en Frankfurt, en 1604, en la imprenta de Nicolas Hoffmann. Este conjunto de lecciones a las que Beyer habría asistido en 1587, abarcaba la operación de tumores preternaturales y hernias, llagas, úlceras y fístulas. Pero como por los programas de estudio -los Rotuli- que se conservan se sabe que ?impartió docencia en 1568 sobre tumores y fracturas, en 1569 sobre úlceras en la cabeza, en 1570 sobre tumores y fracturas, en 1571, sobre heridas, luxaciones y fracturas, en 1572 sobre heridas y fracturas, en 1573 sobre huesos, heridas y luxaciones, y en 1594 sobre las partes similares y disimilares y de qué manera se ven afectadas, además de sobre huesos, anatomía, luxaciones y fracturas?, existen pocas dudas de que el texto publicado por Beyer correspondía a aquellas lecciones. Y por otros de sus estudiantes se sabe que estos agradecían que Fabrizi se empeñase en sus lecciones en hacer comprender las distrofias y enfermedades entre las acciones del alma orgánica.Siguiendo a Haller (Bibliotheca Chirurgica, I, p. 257), son numerosas las bibliografías que aluden a la existencia de una edición parisina de 1613 en la que, bajo el título de Opera chirurgica in duas partes divisa, el propio Fabrizi habría publicado, ahora sí, ese Pentateuchos disponiendo por delante un segundo compendio de lecciones titulado Operationes chirurgicae. Pero la fecha de la referencia ofrecida por Haller debe ser una errata, porque tal edición no existe. La primera vez que se publicó una obra de cirugía completa de Fabrizi fue cuando, al poco de su muerte, lo hizo el impresor veneciano Roberto Meietti con el título de Hieronimi Fabricii ab Aquapendente Operationes chirurgicae.
