Émile Gallé, a French designer who was a pioneer and an… important representative of the Art Nouveau movement, received an education of philosophy, literature, and botanics. The artist, who was working in the fields of glass art and furniture design, researched techniques of glass decoration and was a pioneer in new era glass art. Gallé, Daum, and Lalique glasses are outstanding products that reflect the spirit of this era. After the 1920s, there was a transition to Art Deco with a cubist influence, mysterious and ambiguous, to a style with sharp lines and geometry. At the beginning of the 20th century, the integration of personal creativity with the possibilities offered by science and technology, enabled the production of beautiful objects that made people happy, by expert artists and craftsmen. Production in the studio of the "one and only" was followed by a time period that moved towards serial production. This process resulted in the absolute victory of industrial production today. Art Nouveau and Art Deco objects, which were products of special and extraordinary design, have been receiving increased attention and demand. With this exhibition of 160 works, you will get an idea of the progressive sensibility in the glass art of Emile Gallé, who was an important representative of decorative arts. You will also have a chance to see various examples of the works by Daum Brothers, who were important representatives of École de Nancy, and by René Lalique, famous designer.

Arkas Holdings Ltd. is a Turkish shipping and marine terminal company; the company has amassed a collection of 56 19th and early 20th Ottoman court style carpets from the Feshane, Hereke, and Kumkap workshops and from Sivas. Both the Feshane an…d Hereke workshops were run by the state and were used to make carpets for palaces, for gifts to European royalty, and to some extent for sale. There are chapters on the development of Ottoman court carpets from the 13th to 20th century, the history and changes in the Feshane and Hereke workshops, carpets from both workshops, the history of Kumkap carpets including short biographies of major designers: Agop Kapucuyan, Zareh Penyamin, Tosunyan, Garabed Apelian, and Avdis Tamisçiyan. This is followed by plates of the 56 rugs in the Arkas collection, with short descriptions. The text is strong in using information from a large number of Turkish sources. Timeline of developments in the Feshane and Hereke workshops; 8 pages of notes and bibliography of extensive Turkish sources. Colors are very good. Text is Turkish, French, and English. The French appears to be a good translation from the Turkish; the English seems to be derived from the French version and is not always clear. . Size: 28 x 22 Cm. Book.

This selection, dating from the first half of the 19th century to the second half of the 20th century, features some of the most prominent artists of European landscape painting. The 90 works from the Arkas Collection, most of which are being shown for the first time, illustrate the flourishing artistic scene that prevailed when Paris was the capital of art. The 19th century was one of innovations and revolutions, both historically and artistically. Landscape painting had begun to be recognized as an independent artistic genre in the first half of the 19th century. Until that period, artists preferred to paint in studios. Then, breaking with the strictures of academicism, they began to experiment with plein air (outdoor) painting. During this period, when art itself was being redefined, artistic movements were evolving according to the pictorial tradition. Nature was represented through diverse modes of expression and new artistic movements came into being, such as the Barbizon School, Impressionism, Symbolism, Post-Impressionism, Fauvism and Expressionism. Landscapes of Water "reflects" the historical evolution of the pictorial medium over the course of the 19th and 20th centuries. Here you will find the remarkable works of Eugene Boudin, Jean-Baptiste Camille Corot, Maurice de Vlaminck, Francis Picabia, Henry Lebasque, and Hippolyte Camille Delpy, among others. Vasarely is renowned as the "grandfather" and leader of the op art movement, a styl eof visual art that uses optical illusions. Professor Yalcin Karayagiz from Mimar Sinan Fine Arts University (MSGSU), which is hosting the exhibition, told state-run Anadolu Agency that the artist became prominent in Turkey's academic circles in the 1980s. "Methods that he used require serious mathematical solutions. And you unite it with physics and optical illusion. I mean everything you see as a circle is actually made up of cubes", Karayagiz said. He noted that Vasarely's art was the continuation of Bauhous arts.
