Jahrhundert vielfach realisiert worden war. Vergleiche mit dem Museum Fridericianum in Kassel, der St. Petersburger Kunstkammer, der Kunst- und Naturalienkammer der Franckeschen Stiftungen in Halle und dem Dresdner 'Palais des Sciences' verdeutlichen die Entwicklung. Auf diese Weise zeichnet das Buch eine kaum beachtete, sich jenseits des entstehenden Spartenmuseums entfaltende Tradition universaler Akademiemuseen nach, die den Ausgangspunkt für die Berliner Entwicklungen kurz vor der Gründung des Alten Museums bildete.
