Add to basketPaperback. Condition: Very Good. With an Introduction, Notes and Bibliography by Dr Bruce Woodcock, Senior Lecturer in English, University of Hull. Shelley's short, prolific life produced some of the most memorable and well-known lyrics of the Romantic period. But he was also the most radical writer in the English literary tradition of his day, a fiery political visionary committed to social change and progress. The generous selection in this volume represents the wide range of his writing, both poetry and prose. Arranged chronologically, the accompanying introductory essays set Shelley's works in their historical, social and political context. They provide a vivid insight into the life and times of this volcanic spirit whose inspiring voice called on the people of England to: Rise like lions after slumber In unvanquishable number; Shake your chains to earth like dew Which in sleep had fallen on you. Ye are many, they are few. (The Mask of Anarchy). The book has been read, but is in excellent condition. Pages are intact and not marred by notes or highlighting. The spine remains undamaged.

Paperback. Condition: new. Paperback. They provide a vivid insight into the life and times of this volcanic spirit whose inspiring voice called on the people of England to: 'Rise like lions after slumber In unvanquishable number; Shake your chains to earth like dew Which in sleep had fallen on you. Ye are many, they are few.' (The Mask of Anarchy) AUTHOR: While the reputations of authors and poets can wax and wane both during their lives and the years that follow, few have polarised opinion as much as Percy Bysshe Shelley (1792-1822). His name is inextricably associated with the other Romantic poets, Byron and Keats, but his atheism (and his appalling treatment of his wife) invoked genuine hatred while he lived, and the quality of the poetry of the Romantics in general, and his in particular, has, at times, been much derided. However, the list of his admirers is far longer than the list of his critics. This edition contains all Shelley's poetry, from his juvenilia to his great works such as "The Revolt of Islam" and "Ode to the West Wind", and his only completed verse drama "The Cenci", a melodramatic Venetian tale of incest, murder and revenge. Shipping may be from our UK warehouse or from our Australian or US warehouses, depending on stock availability.
