About the book >.>.> The State Art Collection book, published by the Art Gallery of Western Australia, chronicles the evolution of the Art Gallery of Western Australia over its century-long history. The book details the pivotal role of Bernard Woodward, the first curator, whose passion for art led to the initial acquisitions of the State Art Collection, including significant works such as ?Down on his Luck? by Frederick McCubbin and ?Lake Lugano? by Richard Parkes Bonington. He played an integral part of the gallery's operations until his own retirement in 1942. The book serves as a comprehensive exploration of the gallery's contributions to the preservation and promotion of visual art in Western Australia and encapsulates a century of cultural significance. …
