Author, illustrator, Japanese-American Taro Yashima (1908 - 1994) emmigrated to the US 10 1939 & assisted the U.S. war effort in the Far East. This is his 1955 story of Chibi (lite…rally, tiny boy), who was, shy & withdrawn. With no school friends & often target of cruel mischief, he spent much time in remote side of the moutains where his home was. There Chibi learns to communicate with the black birds! A knowing teacher paves the way for Chibi to demonstrate his skills, and in great admiration the children gift him the honorable name of Crow Boy. The illustrations are as beautiful as the tale.
