From the Library of Hester Sassoon [née Gatty], inscribed on the front free end-paper: "With best wishes Michael May 1964" in what is believed to be in the author's hand Hester Gatty was born in 1906, the daughter of Sir Stephen and Lady Katherine Gatty. She met and married Siegfried Sassoon in 1933. Although they separated after the birth of their son, George, they never divorced. She died in 1973.
