Original publisher's white folio with the text and images printed on loose leaves. 8 1/2" x 11." Forty-one pages, complete. Black and white reprinted illustrations, complete. A beautiful copy. Folio and… pages are very neat and clean. John Bartlett Goodman III (1901-1991) was an American art director and wrote a comprehensive encyclopedia (which was never published) on the 762 ships that traveled from the East Coast to California during the Gold Rush, titled, "California Gold Rush Fleet Encyclopedia of Vessels Sailing from the East Coast of the United States and Canada for San Francisco, December 7, 1848-December3, 1849." The encyclopedia described the histories of the vessels which were organized A-Z; The Key corresponds to the encyclopedia and is also in alphabetical order. The Key lists the ships' specifications charts and tables, such as where and when they were built, their masters, and what happened to them. Goodman, John Bartlett, III (illustrator).

Mild bumping and fraying to head of spine and top corners of boards. Minor general shelf wear to tail of spine and bottom edges of boards. Foxing to top… edge of textblock. Mild scuffing to bottom edge of textblock. Interior pages clean. Shelved above Case 4. "The Ellesmere manuscript of Geoffrey Chaucer's Canterbury Tales, probably created soon after his death in 1400, is the most famous English literary manuscript to survive from the Middle Ages. Acquired by H. E. Huntington in 1917, it contains the text and order-of-tales that for a century and a half have shaped nearly everyone's understanding of the Canterbury Tales. Far less familiar is the ingenious presentation of the text, involving carefully planned illuminations, page designs, glosses, and portraits of all the pilgrim-storytellers." 1394926. Shelved Dupont Bookstore.
