Honore de Balzac was an important French author and playwright who is credited as one of the first proponents of realism throughout Europe. Stories featured are as follows: The Venial Sin, The King's Sweetheart, The Merry Jests of King Louis The Eleventh, The High Constable's Wife, The Danger of Being Too Innocent, The Dear Night of Love, Despair in Love, and The Fair Imperia Married. Many of the stories featured in the volume explore themes of morality, desire and adultery. The stories themselves are provocative and illustrated with numerous humorous illustration many of which depicting semi-naked women. With 20 illustrations throughout by Cees Woltman. Collated complete. In a full cloth binding. Externally smart. Light bumping to the head and tail of the spine, with rubbing to the extremities. The odd spot the endpapers. Tekst Cees Woltman en tekeningen van Fernanda van Leeuwen 1900-1995. Nieuwe spelling; schatting ca. 1950. Ferdinanda Emilia (Nans) van Leeuwen, geboren op 23 december 1900, groeide op in een artistiek gezin. De eerste tekenlessen kreeg ze van haar vader, Klaas van Leeuwen, die schilderde, lesgaf en sierkunstenaar was. Ook de familie van haar moeder, Ferdinanda Vaarzon Morel, was kunstzinnig. Na de hbs ging Nans van Leeuwen naar de Industrieschool van de Maatschappij van den Werkenden Stand, een avondopleiding voor jonge ambachtslieden waar haar vader tekenles gaf. Daar behaalde ze in 1919 haar Eerste Tekenacte. Ze vervolgde haar opleiding aan 'de Museum-school', het Rijksinstituut voor tekenleraren bij het Rijksmuseum. Omdat haar vader er in 1920 benoemd was tot leraar, kreeg ze ook daar les van hem. Nans van Leeuwen studeerde in 1922 af aan de Rijksakademie voor Beeldende Kunsten in Amsterdam.…
