Honore de Balzac was an important French author and playwright who is credited as one of the first proponents of realism throughout Europe. Stories featured are as follows: The Venial Sin, The King's Sweetheart, The Merry Jests of King Louis The Eleventh, The High Constable's Wife, The Danger of Being Too Innocent, The Dear Night of Love, Despair in Love, and The Fair Imperia Married. Many of the stories featured in the volume explore themes of morality, desire and adultery. The stories themselves are provocative and illustrated with numerous humorous illustration many of which depicting semi-naked women. With 20 illustrations throughout by Cees Woltman. Collated complete. In a full cloth binding. Externally smart. Light bumping to the head and tail of the spine, with rubbing to the extremities. The odd spot the endpapers.
